Relocating Home Summary (Stage 1)

By exploring the space that i call home in both the countryside and the city of Auckland i was able to create a visual representation of what these spaces mean to me. Through photographing these two spaces at different times and through different angles, views and weather I was able to generate an atmospheric representation of these spaces. I have done this to show how these two spaces that appear to be completely different at a first glance are actually quite the opposite. By digging further into just the visual aesthetics i was able to begin to generate strong connections to different aspects of these spaces through something as simple as collection and comparison of images taken at similar angles.

I began my research with the idea in my mind of determining what the meaning of home, through an autoethnographic approach of using my own experiences of home doubled with philosophical and spatial design theorists ideas to generate a “home series” to visually and physically represent my research in an interactable and evocative way.

How home is more than just the physical things that we have and live within it is more so the feeling that encompasses us through the rituals and roles we take on in the space. Through the interactions with other people and animals and the love that is shared between these interactions is what makes a place home.
