“re” as a concept

Summary of what the prefix “re” means to me in terms of my project and my application of the word throughout my making stages.

The prefix “re” has a very simple meaning and a simple use as to why we place it in front of other words. We do this to create the emphasis of repetition. whether it is for exact repetition or for recreation of a feeling emotion object place and do on. the use of the prefix re is to inform the viewer, reader, person experiencing it to know that this is not the original point. This object, feeling, or even thought has come from somewhere else and has been edited, changed, reworked, and rethought to create the version that it is now.

Re- the process of again and again.

throughout my project there are 3 different making stages that i intend to cover, the first stage (which i have already tackled) is the relocating stage of the project. if we take away the prefix “Re” we are left with the words locating, cycling, and creating home. This helps me to better understand these ideas that i am trying to explore with the 3 stages explained as follows;

• RElocating, to establish home again in a particular place (a place away from home itself).
• REcycling, a repeating set of rituals, items and processes that make up the feeling of being at home.
• and REcreating, to create a situation, feeling, or space of home to exist again.

Through the process of recreating home in a different way to the home i currently occupy, it will be interesting to see the boundaries of what i classify as my own home and through the images i have been collection and taking there is a theme of a low angle image looking out into the distance with a bi focus on both the close and far away. This boundary looking begins to create a connection between what i am home and comfortable with and the distant cosmos of how i fit into my home and how my home fits into the surrounding area and how this area fits into the space on the planet that it occupies and how all of these places are connected through one thing or another, whether it is a line, a shadow, a person, or even something as small as a cell. everything works together and with teach other to create the world and the spaces as we know them as today.
