Collection

Scrap booking as a means of recording and remembering what you have done and seen. Although scrap booking is a fairly old tradition that has been around since the 15th century its popularity did drop off a bit through out the years. however, over the last decade the fashion has started to pick up again due to the creative and unique nature of the scrapbook and how this relates to the relationships that we are in. using a scrapbook in 2020 is becoming increasingly popular again to memorialize moments in a relationship and create a place these moments can be relived and cherished for years to come.

Also with this idea of creating a platform that can memorialize moments in time and help them to be relived in times to come I have also looked at the process of making a scrapbook. The process of collecting as much information from both spaces of home, the country and the city homes and recreating these in different spaces.

Through the means of photographing, material collection, site and space mapping, and sorting I have come up with a “relocation of home” to be recreated and relived in different spaces/areas/locations. Scrap booking is a collection of things, not just photos, that are tied together by stories that we associate with them and our memories. Unlike, a photo album that just holds the images of these memories alone a scrapbook is used to tell a story of these images.

One of the main structures of a gallery space besides the way the works are exhibited is the way these works are achieved both before and after they have been exhibited within the gallery space.

This term archive is a collection of historical documents or records providing information about a place, institution, or group of people.

  • I have explored this archive in a scrap booking way. Taking photos, moments, and thoughts of a space and laying them out in an orderly fashion in a scrapbook.
  • Using the scrapbook as a portable transportable version of a gallery archive. A space to memorialize a space so it can be viewed and experienced at a later date and different location.
