Week Seven: Sentence/Essay Starters and Formative Feedback

Sentence and Essay starters

When I first set out to write an essay, I am very stressed, and I have no idea where to start, how to start, or what it is I am going to write to get started. It takes me a few hours to digest what it is we have to do before I can start attacking the task.

After I get over my initial freaking out stage of the giant task of writing an essay, I begin to create a brain dump. It is just a series of bullet points of a lot of things I have thought that is all over the place, and I do this to get my ideas down on paper.

Opening lines: or trials of what they could be.

  • It was not long ago when I was sitting there, in my home, just like you. – letter format, writing from the future
    • writing from a futuristic point of view when the world has gone through the Coivd-19 pandemic and has come out the other side and the full effects of global warming are evident now on the planet
  • If I knew what you do now, I would be doing everything possible to stop that happening. – letter format, writing from the past?
    • writing from a past tense when the world worked much slower and the items that they hold of value are much simpler than what we believe we cannot live without, less technology, less people, less panic.
  • Just like you, I had a new innocence about me, completely unaware that the world around us was soon going to change forever.
    • hinting at the incoming of global warming and what this means foe the planet that we know today.
  • …completely oblivious of what lies ahead
    • unaware of its full extent of global warming
  • You have two days, 48 hours to collect everything you need to survive for the rest of your life, are you ready?
    • playing on the panic of the pandemic and pointing out how unorganized we all are for such an event like this, that we do not even know what we need to live, what are our essentials.

Formative feedback

After reading the formative feedback that I have received from my annotations and noting down areas that I have been struggling in it was very evident to see that what I was struggling with the most was my lack of control that I was putting on myself for this project. I was struggling to narrow down what I am interested in researching because there is so much content, I am interested in. However, after receiving this feedback it was nice to see that some ideas that I was communicating were much stronger than others and some ideas that I was thinking were completely different combine into one idea/project. Although I have a medium to large collection of resources that are strong in communicating my ideas, I do need to step back a little bit and dive more into the technical side of things and narrow down my research area and then dive into collecting more references in a much more condensed search field.
