What are you drawn to? (subject matter)
- My small impact on the design world
- How I can change the way I design and make things that is going to have a better impact on the world around us due to the current climate emergency
- Particular focus on wood..? recycled wood, timber, logs, unprocessed and processed?
- Compared to PVC plastics of 3D printing, EVA foam board, MDF
How am I going to do what I want to do? (methods)
- Limit the amount of materials that I buy and try and use the materials that I can find and salvage first in my design.
- Use what is already thought of as waste, give this a new life.- like taking away the bad of a bad situation (flood) and instead taking what you gain from this
- How can these materials be recycled in a way that is better for the environment around us?
- Drawing on my past experiences and how these change the way I think and the way that I design due to the values I obtained from a young age
- Live a lot in the 3D world, creating things that don’t particularly take up space physically but if they were realised they would.
What are contexts frame questions 1 and 2? (contexts)
- What are the ways that I do my work; a very digital based work, hands on drawing doodling, modelling out of scrap and materials that have lying around already to test ideas at a small scale,
- Design history and how people before me have created furniture and interior spaces with the context of minimal waste, zero waste, recycling, find examples of these either visual or written.
- How have these people recycled or gathered these materials; what were their methods, is there a place for me to improve on their recycling and making process? Find my position
- How the history of the land around me can drive the way that I a designing, using local materials to drive what materials are being used and how I can sue these local materials to bring more information and richness to the objects and spaces that I am designing
- Art and designers that have a history/background in the recycled/reused object areas. “artist models”/design precedents
What drives my research and why? (focus)
- How my British/European history can drive the way that I design, how the European way can instead have a positive impact on the way we design in NZ as a way that supports local
Who is/are your audience(s) / communities / user (question / inquiry)
- My research would be targeted for young object/interior designers as we are the future and how we are the ones that have to design sustainably if we are to have any future at all.
- Would also like the information to speak to everyone of every age.
